From Pastor Tim Tyler
God is always bringing us to a new level of glory (2 Cor. 3:18). Yet even an upgrade can be uncomfortable, because it means transition—which is the process of transformation. The Latin word for transition is liminal, which means “threshold.” Thresholds are doorways or entrances. A liminal period is the space between going from one boundary to another without being fully at either one. Liminal spaces can feel like walking through a hallway, a stairwell, a waiting room, or between leaving one job and starting a new one. They act as the boundary between one destination and another. As we step through this doorway together, we are embarking on a journey toward the wonderful “new” that God has prepared for Christ Community Church.
Transitions naturally unfold in three stages. Separation: Leaving behind a previous season or role. Transition: The middle journey where faith and hope anchor us through the unfamiliar. Incorporation: Fully stepping into a new identity, environment, and chapter.
This process is very much like a birth canal. Transition can be a time of great vulnerability and a challenge to our peace. It is the time the enemy tries to abort and impair our journey. Therefore, we must keep our eyes on Jesus—the author and trailblazer of our faith knowing that God has promised to walk with us every step of the way.
After 35 deeply fulfilling years of serving as your pastor, the Lord is calling me into a new season. I have been elected as the General Overseer of the International Fellowship of Christian Assemblies (IFCA). To make way for C3’s next generation of leadership, our transition plan is set as follows:
In 2026; Pay off the church mortgage. Celebrate the retirement of Pastor Ron.
In 2027; Pastor Tim continues as Lead Pastor. Pastors Greg and Emily step in as Associate Co-Pastors in training to become the future Lead Co-Pastors of C3. Pastor Steve continues serving as Administrative Pastor, Morgan Owens steps in as Youth Pastor, and Courtney Pas steps in as Children’s Director.
Other steps in 2027 include; January: We will have a constitutional vote regarding the Co-Pastor model and a Co-Eldership. September: We will then have a congregational vote in which a 2/3’s majority is required for Pastors Greg and Emily to transition to Lead Pastors in 2028. December: Pastor Tim will officially retire.
Preserving Our Vision & DNA as C3 is our focus. The heart of a successful transition is holding fast to God's vision for His church. We want to ensure Christ Community Church continues its vital mission of discipleship, therefore, we have looked to leaders who already carry C3's DNA.
Pastors Greg and Emily have served faithfully in leadership at C3 for over 20 years. They have fully participated in our ministries, leadership decisions, and vision. They will be discipled by me for the year of 2027 to prepare them for their task ahead. I am fully persuaded that they are well equipped and gifted for this new role.
It is my hope that you will pray and ask God what you will do through this transition. Don’t simply react but Pray. Lisa and I are not leaving C3. Christ Community Church will remain our home church for the rest of our lives. Although I am stepping out of C3 leadership to serve the broader church through the IFCA, I will ultimately serve as the Overseer of the Church for the IFCA—while remaining right beside you in the pews.
I invite you to pray over this exciting new chapter. Rather than reacting out of fear of the unfamiliar, let’s seek God together, support our incoming leadership, and step boldly into the bright future He has planned for C3!
